What do Food for the Hungry Advocates do?
Food for the Hungry Advocates speak in churches, small groups and Sunday school classes, mobilizing Christians to take action against world poverty. Advocates find sponsors for 8-10 children per year, and seek to introduce 3-4 churches to the ministry of Food for the Hungry.
What are the responsibilities of an Advocate?
- Complete the Advo-Kit training course (3 sessions, 3-4 hours total time).
- Seek at least four opportunities per year to speak at a small group, church service, or Sunday school class.
- Participate in 6:8 Sunday annually in October.
- Meet with Regional Manager or Leader Advocate once per month via phone for ½ hour.
- Commit to advocating for at least one year.
What are the qualifications for becoming an Advocate?
Advocates are people who have demonstrated devotion to Christ and to living a Christian lifestyle. Advocates are committed to: ● sponsoring a child ● working as a team with people from different denominations ● serving in their local church ● investing time in their advocacy work ● supporting Food for the Hungry’s vision, mission and values ● working under the direction of a Regional Manager or Leader Advocate.

What kind of training do Advocates receive?
Advocates go through a self-guided training course that takes approximately three hours. A Regional Manager or Leader Advocate meets with each Advocate monthly for prayer, support and encouragement. In addition, Advocates are encouraged to attend Food for the Hungry’s annual Summit Conference for training, encouragement, and updates from staff around the world. Advocates also have the chance to learn from and connect with other advocates during webcasts, regional meetings and other forums.
Is there a position open in my community?
Yes, Advocates serve in their own community, advocating among the churches, organizations and people they know.
